๐ฌ Is Outpatient Care Right for You?
Outpatient treatment at Embrace is ideal for individuals who are medically and psychiatrically stable and ready to engage in recovery. While BMI is one consideration, we understand that eating disorders affect people of all sizes and backgrounds.
General BMI Guidelines:
- Outpatient: BMI โฅ 17.5 or โฅ 85% of Ideal Body Weight (IBW)
- Intensive Outpatient / PHP: BMI between 16.0 and 17.5
- Inpatient: BMI โค 16.0 (with urgent admission often needed for BMI โค 14.0)
For clients with a BMI approaching 16, coordination with a primary care provider or pediatrician is required. If BMI falls near or below 14, we will recommend medical clearance and/or inpatient care due to the elevated risk for cardiac complications. In such cases, we may also require collaboration with a cardiologist before resuming outpatient therapy.
Our team conducts comprehensive assessments and collaborates with your medical providers to ensure that outpatient care is safe and effective for your unique needs. As part of this process, we may recommend blind weigh-ins in coordination with your medical provider or dietitian when clinically appropriate. This trauma-informed option helps reduce focus on numbers and supports nervous system regulation during recovery.
